HOW YOU CAN PREVENT BURN INJURY:

  • Keep children out of the kitchen when preparing hot meals.
  • Don't hold hot beverages and babies at the same time.
  • Monitor cooking routines of elderly relatives and adjust as necessary.
  • Set water heater thermostat to keep tap water temperature below 125º; never leave small children alone in the bathroom.
  • Install smoke detectors on each floor of residence; change batteries at least once a year.
  • Keep matches, lighters and chemicals away from children.
  • Keep fabrics and papers three feet away from all portable heaters; always refuel outdoors.
  • Use extreme care in handling and storing gasoline and other flammable liquids.
  • Ban smoking in your house.
  • Support the fire and burn injury prevention programs of your local fire department.
