In keeping with our ongoing policy, US Burn and the OBC have at least 12 volunteers on the ground or on the water in Haiti.

We are there to help any and all survivors.  The high level training of our staff will go a long way to aid the suffering in this horrendous catastrophe. Any thing we can do to help ease the pain of these poor souls.

In addition, create a safe haven where survivors and their families can begin the process of healing among their peers and other survivors experiencing related struggles and triumphs.
To encourage and strengthen survivors to find acceptance and beauty within themselves, so they can lead healthy and productive lives.
In return, they can teach others how to live in acceptance of others with disabilities.

A Short History of the United States Burn Support Organization

The United States Burn Support Organization was started in the fall of 2004; the original goal of the organization was to provide supportive services “Emotional” to the fellow Burn Survivor!

While undertaking to the process of working with the area Burn Centers and realizing the hard efforts needed to do so, the U.S Burn Support Organization, took a turn for the positive side- in which the organization Executive Officers sort to take a different avenue to providing the services needed by the burn community.

It was early 2005- when the Corporation papers came back approved as a non-profit, with that in hand- we founded a way to aid and move outside the hospital grounds to provide our services, we then took up an effort to establish a working relationship with the Public Safety Community, whether in Pa or in New York City, as an example

The Executive Board which is made of people from all walks of life’ decided to put out a survey to the burn community “burn survivors” at which the questions were asked- In which way do you feel the United States Burn Support Organization can help you and your immediate family members?
The answers to the questions was truly alarming to us, because we hadn’t planned for such services and the true needs- more so, we thought there was other agencies out there to assist in the time of need- which is somewhat true!
However, the Burn Survivors we met with stated when they called the different organizations and/or foundations, they were turned away. In the spring of 2005, the United States Burn Support Organization established programs that could and would assist those with burn injuries. The problem we ran into was the fact that everyone was applying for services’ so in the short period of time, the U.S Burn Support had to once again change its pattern of work and establish clear grounds and /or clarifications on who and what qualifies as a true need!
The U.S Burn Support Organization undertook to develop programs, such as the -
     1) Pressure Garment Assistance
     2) Support Group Services
     3) Burn Camp Program
     4) Supportive Services for the Immediate Family
     5) Burn Prevention
     6) Fire Prevention
     7) Fire Awareness
     8) Burn Awareness
     9) Disability Awareness
   10) School and Work ReEntry

In the fall of 2005, the United States Burn Support Organization started its fund-raising efforts to support goals and agenda of the Burn Community, by this time- the U.S Burn Support had helped over 250 families affected by burns and/or fires. The U.S Burn Support was again put to the test with the assistance request made by the United Nations to help out with a Disability Treaty’ called the Comprehensive bilateral convention on the Protection and the Promotion of the Rights & Dignity of those with Disabilities.

The United States Burn Support sent multiple representatives up to the convention (treaty) meeting in New York City, so that the Burn Community could have an effective voice in the International World and that way people would learn to take those with Burns seriously and not treat them as if something is mentally wrong with them!

The U.S Burn Support, while undertaking the Convention process was invited to assist on important issues at hand, that affected the Disability and the Burn Community on a every day basis, keeping that in mind- the U.S Burn Support Liaison Committee to the UN was established – to help deal with implementation of the Convention and the other matters for which the U.S Burn Support undertook to deal with!

In the Summer of 2006, the United States Burn Support Organization held its first elections and the first Executive Officers was let go- with a great praise of thanks for all the hard work to get us this far- after the elections, a more permanent UN Liaison Office was establish to help facilitate the personnel issues the organization was having- because all of our people was in New York- A team of 3 consisting of the Chief Executive Officer, 1 Burn Survivor, 1 Business minded person and special advisors was place into affect to serve the International Burn Community.

Furthermore, during the summer of ’06, the United States Burn Support Organization, created an operational Office called the Emergency O.P.S Center, which handle Fire Prevention, Fire Awareness and Fire Services support – this was an effort to undertake proper fire safety education and make it available to all citizens of the United States of America- the Emergency O.P.S Center helped multiple schools and townships with Fire Prevention Education and Demos was tried and successful with the School age children and their parents.

During the year of 2007, the United States Burn Support Organization got better in way of offering programming to the Community at Large- by attending block parties, schools, colleges, churches and so forth!

The United States Burn Support Organization Executive Board place fourth a goal set agenda for the year of 2008 and that help answer questions of new services being needed In the Burn Community, more so in a post 9/11 environment were anything goes!

Moreover, With the United Nations working agreement and the status of the United States Burn Support Organization, the International Burn Support was created to help facilitate services overseas, therefore easing the demand over here in the United States. In that same time under a full host of mutual agreements and necessity, the Office of the Commissioner for Burns was created to aid in the International Burn Community and that of the Disability Communities.

The Office of the Commissioner for Burns and that of the International Burn Support works and strives for a better tomorrow for all mankind, more so the O.C.B provides support in the areas of Burn Center and Fire Services support- which also includes policy, Human Rights, the Health and Human Services of those with Burns, Treaty Education and policies, and other important issues relating to that of the Burn and Disabilities Communities.

So far since its founding, the United States Burn Support Organization, with the help of the multiple volunteers and that of the Executive Board has undertaking a full series of turns, to better the Burn Community as a whole, and in a short period of time assisted hundreds of families affected burns & fires, and Disabilities. In addition, to making it internationally known for the good works and support provided on a daily basis to all people of the World.
In closing, this report gives a brief detail of the Everyday life of the United States Burn Support and its focus, including its determination to help those in need!

Sincerely,

The Executive Officers
