How You Can Prevent Burn Injury

Keep children out of the kitchen when preparing hot meals.

Don't hold hot beverages and babies at the same time.
li
Monitor cooking routines of elderly relatives and adjust as necessary.
li
Set water heater thermostat to keep tap water temperature below 125º; never leave small children alone in the bathroom.
li
Install smoke detectors on each floor of residence; change batteries at least once a year.
li
Keep matches, lighters and chemicals away from children.
li
Keep fabrics and papers three feet away from all portable heaters; always refuel outdoors.
li
Use extreme care in handling and storing gasoline and other flammable liquids.
li
Ban smoking in your house.
li
Support the fire and burn injury prevention programs of your local fire department.
